2011 May 4 Widows and Wives Dinner

Union Lodge No. 5 celebrated Wives and Widows on May 4 with a special Cinco de Mayo Mexican Feast.  The delicious meal catered from Coyote Flaco in Bridgeport included salad, quesadillas, chimichangas, a choice of chicken, shrimp or beef fajitas, black beans and rice.  A Tres Leches Cake from Neri’s Bakery in Port Chester New York, very popular in Latin America, was served for dessert.  This cake is soaked in three kinds of milk: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream.  A filling of peaches in the cake added a nice flavorful touch, and the frosting was decorated with roses and “Union Lodge No. 5”.

A full house of brothers, along with several visitors and family members, contributed to the festive atmosphere.  Worshipful Master Jon Ringel welcomed everyone to the event, and gave a heartfelt toast to all the wives and widows.  In keeping with the theme of the event, WM Ringel’s education topic for the evening focused on the history of Elizabeth St. Leger, daughter of Lord Doneraile of Doneraile Court, County Cork, Ireland, who is considered by some to be the only true female Freemason.
