| 2011 October 5 Awards Night at Union Lodge No. 5 includes a surprise! |
|
The Awards Night held at Union Lodge No. 5 on Wednesday October 5 was a joyous occasion for many reasons. Right Worshipful Brother Gary Arseneau, Deputy Grand Master of The Grand Lodge of Connecticut, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, presented a 50 year pin to Worshipful Brother Malcolm (Mike) Grogins. Worshipful Brother Grogins served as Worshipful Master of Union Lodge No. 5 in 1968. Brother Ernest Siladi, who would have received a 60 year pin, resides out of state so the presentation of his pin will be made locally. Several other brothers of the lodge, many in attendance at the program, also received pins marking their years of service to the fraternity as noted: Brother Matt Swall (5) A surprise was also presented at the program—the Scottish Rite Medal for Masonic Service was presented to Worshipful Brother Domenic Corbo, who currently serves as Treasurer of Union Lodge No. 5. This medal may be conferred by the Supreme Council or by the Sovereign Grand Commander upon any Master Mason, whether or not a member of their jurisdiction, who fully embodies the tenets of the Masonic fraternity, based on the recommendation of three of his peers in his locality. On hand to assist in presenting the Medal were Ill. Bruce T. Work, 33rd Degree, Active for Connecticut, A.A.S.R., and Ill. James R. Spencer, 33rd Degree, Active Emeritus, A.A.S.R. This was only the second award of its type given since its inception. The brothers of Union Lodge No. 5 are extremely proud of all the award recipients and congratulate them on their significant achievements!
