The January 23 District 1 Blue Lodge Council Meeting held at Union Lodge No. 5 included a very special education topic on Art as an industry, an investment, and a review of various organizations in the Art world. Brother Felix Lugo, Union Lodge No. 5’s Junior Warden, is a highly accomplished award-winning artist best known for his use of strong color and interesting perspectives. He is also a board member of the Stamford Art Association. Brother Lugo’s art has been accepted by several juried competitions, and has been exhibited in several shows including solo exhibitions. Brother Lugo presented five pieces of art created by artists including Andy Warhol, Picasso, Matisse, and Keith Haring. The brothers voted on which art was “fake”. Brother Lugo then explained how the art world determines whether art is real or fake, based on several factors including scientific examination and the role of an artist’s foundation—not all of which may be in agreement on any particular piece of art.
Brother Lugo gave out tickets to all brothers so that an authentic Keith Haring artwork would be given to the brother whose ticket was chosen out of a drum. The lucky winner of the authentic Keith Haring was Brother Andrew Bilukha of Fidelity Saint John’s Lodge No. 3. Congratulations to Brother Bilukha!
In addition to the special presentation on art by Brother Lugo, this was also the inaugural meeting for newly elected President Brother Michel Gomez and Vice President Brother David Jackson, both of Union Lodge No. 5. Congratulations Brothers Gomez and Jackson on a successful first meeting!
